I have been at the recreation center for four years, and I have been working for Highbridge for the past seven months. I am currently a sophomore at John Jay College.
I grew up riding horses and eating fried chicken. Now, I'm riding trains and eating rice and beans. Many things are different from my years of youth in South Caroline, yet some things are the same (I'm riding horses in my dreams). Even so, I love New York and I love teaching and I'm glad to be able to enjoy both in the Highbridge Community.
I work at Highbridge for the Get and Give program as a Couselor for the children. My responsibility is to help the kids with their academic work and also to help them grow as bright intelligent young men and young women. I attend Hostos Community College my major is Liberal Arts I want to continue working with children.
I have been in Administrative Services at Highbridge for 2 years and 10 months. I am very happy doing this job. I have great co-workers and my bosses (Sr. Ellen, Lisette and Br. Ed) are terrific. I want the world to know that I love Amparo Rodriguez !
I began working with the Bridge Builders in January 2005. The Foster Care Coordinator Coordinates the Foster Care Component of the Bridge Builders which works to address the project goals of decreasing the time children spend in foster care and to prevent reentry in to foster care once reunited. The Foster Care Component of the Family Support Program is designed to support Highbridge parents, whose children are in foster care, successfully through the process of reunification. Parents recently reunited with their children are provided after care services to prevent reentry in to foster care. The Foster Care Coordinator with the help of the Family Support Workers assist parents with meeting mandates of family court and fulfilling their service plan requirements as well as work to ensure visits with their children are frequent and productive. Support for parents are given in collaboration with the Bridge Builders Partners and external resources. Individual and Group services are provided to reach these goals. Developing relationships with foster care agencies caseworkers and supervisors serving Highbridge parents is a key role the Foster Care Component. I entered the social service field in 1994 with working with abused youth in a residential treatment center in North Carolina. I’ve served as a caseworker for a New York City foster care agency and worked in the Homefinding Unit of Nassau County Department of Social Services certifying foster boarding homes. Before coming to the Bridge Builders, I spent four years with a Bronx preventive service agency in the Research and Development Department working on program development, grant writing, coalition building and community development.
