I came to Highbridge in 1989 as an ESL teacher. After a week or so I said to myself "this looks like a good job." In the years that followed I became a GED teacher and a Citizenship teacher. After 18 years - almost one hundred GED's, hundreds of new citizens and thousands of new English speakers (plus a pension and a 3% raise in 2006.) I can tell everyone - THIS IS A GREAT JOB!
I been living in the Highbridge neighborhood for 30 yrs. I have been working with Highbridge for 6 years. I enjoy being here and my position here is Administrative assistant and receptionist. My responsibilities is to provide office support from 10am to 2:00pm, answering phone, forwarding the calls and monitoring the front area for visitors and children from 3pm to 6pm. I am a very responsible person. I love children and I love to work here and help everybody and talk to the parents about the programs and services.
I was born in Highbridge and really have worked at Highbridge since I was about 8 years old - I was a volunteer and worked in the after school program with Rham Robinson. I would want to thank my mother Yolanda Romero for setting me up with all the jobs while ignoring child labor laws.
My name is Catalina Rodriguez I was a participant at Back to Work at HCLC. I was presented with the opportunity to have an interview with the same Back to Work department. I am very happy to be part of this program and to be able to set an example to the many people that visit our department and to show them to never give up. I want to give thanks to everyone who's helped make this possible especially the wonderful ladies at the BTW Department and Adult ED. I am the assistant Director Of Youth Services. This is my third year working in this agency. Before coming to Highbridge I taught eighth grade Science for two years. I migrated to this country when I was eleven years old. As an immigrant myself, I understand the challenges that many of them encounter. I enjoy working here because I feel that I am able to inspire and motivate students with my similar background to be their best and realize their own potential. Ultimately, fulfilling my goal to help my community by shaping the minds of the architects of our future.
